ABOUT
CHD (Classic Hondas on the Dragon) is an annual event held in the Great Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. It is a weekend-long gathering for classic Honda enthusiasts to come and celebrate their passion. The weekend, hosted on the first weekend in October, is focused on driving one of the best driving roads in the United States, the Tail of the Dragon. The event consists of several meets and a lot of drive time in the Maryville, TN, Robbinsville, NC and Bryson City, NC area. During our meets, folks get to meet old friends or make new ones, check out each other's vehicles, eat great food and meet our partners/vendors. The rest of the time is spent driving the Tail of the Dragon. You will also have the opportunity during the weekend to explore the area yourself and drive some of the other fantastic driving roads including the Cherohala Skyway and the Foothills Parkway. History
The brainchild of founder Stephen Dettman, CHD began with a small group of first generation CRX and third generation Civic enthusiasts from the southeast region of the United States, who got together to not only enjoy each other's cars and company, but also the fantastic fall weather, local cuisine, and wonderful driving roads in and around western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. However small, the group quickly realized how unique and fun the event was and spread the news as best they could. Once the word got out, the event grew exponentially over the next few years and has continued to experience incredible growth to this day, becoming one of the most popular Honda events of the year. Whether you love classic Hondas, or are simply curious to see what they are all about, come join us! You'll have a blast.
The Dragon
The Tail of the Dragon is a section of US 129 between Deals Gap in Robbinsville, NC and Chilhowee Lake outside of Maryville, TN. Discovered by motorcyclists from the Atlanta Georgia area in the 1980's, this 11 mile stretch of two-lane mountain road with its 318 turns quickly became one of the most sought after driving experiences in the country. Today, folks come from all over the world to drive this road. Filled with technical corners, constant elevation change and beautiful scenery, it feels more like an amusement part ride. No need to fear pot-holes because the road was just repaved from end to end. Come join us and find out just how fun it can be to drive a classic Honda!
